“I forgive you.” That simple sentence is powerful. It makes a dynamic impact on both the one hearing it and the one speaking it. The usual replies to an apology following along the lines of, “That’s okay,” or “Don’t worry about it.” These replies dismiss the apology, as well as the precipitating offense, as insignificant. These replies do not heal the wound created by the offense; they allow it to fester under the surface.
